Born and raised in Clinton, New York, Jim carried the values of hard work, discipline, and integrity throughout his life. He served his country with honor as a United States Marine before pursuing a distinguished career as both an engineer and a college professor. His love for knowledge was evident in his private family library, a testament to his belief in the power of learning.
Jim fell in love with hockey as a child in Upstate New York, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He was a devoted fan of the New York Rangers and loved watching their games, especially with his sons. Whether cheering them on together, debating plays, or reminiscing about legendary players, those moments were some of his favorites.
He spent over 30 years in Colorado, where he built a life filled with family and adventure. He was a devoted husband to Tamara Kirk for over 40 years, and together they built a legacy of love and family. Jim was the proud father of four children: Kathy Burdette, Doug Perkins, Scott Kirk, and Ian Kirk. He cherished his role as a grandfather to ten grandchildren and a great-grandfather to fifteen great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Kirk and his wife, Tamara Kirk, but leaves behind his beloved sister, Jane, and a family who will forever honor his memory. He was raised in the Catholic faith, which remained a part of his life.
His strength, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to those he loved will be deeply missed. A service will be held at 10am on Thursday, February 20th at Saint Williams Catholic Church on Saint Simons Island, Ga, where family and friends will gather to celebrate a life well-lived.
Semper Fi, Jim.
