

James A. “Jim” Otte, Sr., 81, of Brunswick, died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Hospice of The Golden Isles. Memorial services will be held 11AM , Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Crandall officiating.
Born June 21, 1931 in Covington, KY, to the late Theodore J. and Gertrude V. Otte, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran, and retired as a coach from Brunswick Junior College after 34 years of service. Mr. Otte, attended the University of Kentucky and received his BS and Masters Degree from the University of Tennessee. He worked at North Georgia College from 1957 – 1968, and had trained over 8000 people in CPR during his tenure with the University System of Georgia. Mr. Otte was a former member of the Brunswick Exchange Club, was past chairman of Georgia State Health and Service Board, and had assisted in training safety courses in GA, NC, SC, FL, TN, AL, and MS. He was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 47 years. Mr. Otte was recently inducted into the North Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. He had been a resident of Glynn County since 1968, and was a member of First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Quinn H. Otte.
Survivors include his son, James A. Otte, Jr. and wife Ellen of Brunswick, two granddaughters, Ansley Otte and, Aime Ottee, a sister, Rosemary Groger of Covington, KY, and several nieces and nephews.
