He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susan Hoffman; son Grayson Hoffman (Jamie); daughter Amanda Thaw (Jonathan) and grandson Andrew Thaw.
Jeff was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, in 1946 and graduated from Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1964. After receiving his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctor of Education degrees from the University of Florida, he was a professor for 15 years at Florida State University. At the age of 40, he changed careers, moved to Miami and became a SAG actor and commercial model.
Returning to the Golden Isles in 1994, Jeff was a member of the Sea Island Club and particularly enjoyed the Thursday senior golf group. He was also an enthusiastic ballroom dancer and a competitive rose grower who served several years as president of both the Shoreline Ballroom Dance Club and the Golden Isles Rose Society. In addition, Jeff wrote “The Hoffman Reports” column for the Weekend Newspaper and contributed numerous articles to local magazines.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edmond Hoffman, and his mother and stepfather, Lucile and Clyde Stanaland.
Always the educator, Jeffrey has left his body to the University of Florida Medical School to be used in anatomical education and medical research. When his ashes are returned, the family will have a private inurnment in the columbarium at Christ Church, Frederica, on St. Simons Island.
