

Born April 10, 1947, to the late Richard and Maxine Thompson of Newark, Ohio, he was a 1965 graduate of Gahanna Lincoln High School in Gahanna, Ohio. He attended Southern Illinois University before entering the United States Navy. He was an air traffic control specialist aboard the USS Intrepid and served three tours of duty in Vietnam. He was stationed at Glynco Naval Air Station when he met and married Brenda Joyner. They lived in Ventura, California, Collinsville, Illinois, and Columbus, Ohio before returning to Brunswick. He then attended Brunswick Junior College.
Jeff was an avid fisherman. He loved auto racing and owned SEGA Raceways, a slot car track in Brunswick. He also was a self-taught artist painting various mediums including canvas, ceramic and wood. He spent many hours carving duck decoys and won many competitions.
Jeff was Past Master Masonic Lodge 717. He held various offices with the Masons and Brunswick Shrine, also being a member of the Clown and Buccaneer units. He helped his wife with her sorority activities and was chosen Husband of the Year for Alpha Psi.
Jeff and his wife owned and operated Kidz Kountry Day Care and Learning Center in Waynesville for 20 years. Before becoming disabled, he cooked all the meals and the children called him Mr. Food. Jeff also owned Waynesville Martial Arts and as a Black Belt taught Shotokan and self-defense to all ages.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Brenda Joyner Thompson; his daughter, Kimberly Thompson; and one son, Jeffrey Thompson Jr., and daughter-in-law, Kristen Finley Thompson; his four grandchildren are Kelsea Thompson, Trent Rowell, Emmalee Thompson and Lucas Thompson, all of Brunswick. He is also survived by an aunt, an uncle, and several cousins in the Columbus, Ohio area.
The family will receive friends at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
