I grew up with Jerry because of a life-long friendship with his cousin, Lisa. I remember Eulonia Elementary School, pushing us girls on the merry-go-round while we chanted, “Bet’cha $5 you can’t make me fall.” I remember him leading us all in what air instruments we had to play to ANY Boston song in his room. Out in front of their house across from Truett’s store challenging Lisa and I to see how much weight we could lift with his bar weights (Lisa won). Him loving the South’s wrestling on TV and putting me in a leg lock that forced me to say “UNCLE”! Or the 45rpm Doobie Brothers “Black Water” record single we had to listen to over and over and over again! So many memories flooding back like they were yesterday. I will miss him even after 35 years of being far apart but will always cherish those memories! Lisa shared with me while I anguished looking at the pain in her eyes that one departure from the family after high school for him, Led Zepplin’s Stairway to Heaven was playing when he left. He’s climbing that stairway now and Jerry will be up top waiting for the rest of us undoubtedly hanging with the Tom Pettys and Zepplins crowd!
