Jill Ellen Rueber joined the heavenly choir on December 23, 2025, surrounded by her family and pastor. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, gifted musician, and generous servant to her community. Jill was born on July 24, 1959, in Seattle, Washington, to Willard and Ruth Ghormley.
Jill’s love of music blossomed early. A talented flutist in high school, she went on to join the Husky Marching Band while attending the University of Washington. She proudly performed in four Rose Bowls and its famous parades—experiences that remained among her most cherished memories. After college graduation, Jill expressed her creativity in a new way through her work as a florist for a time, and in later years worked in a law office.
In August 1992, Jill married the love of her life, Mark Rueber.
Together they shared 33 years of marriage marked by devotion, partnership, and deep love for their family. Music remained central throughout Jill’s life. She played flute at various churches over the years and was an active member of the Golden Isles Community Band. Jill was a steadfast supporter of her children’s musical journeys and gave generously of her time as a Brunswick High Marching Pirates Band Booster. For several years, she also served as a troop leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout troop and supported Girl Scout programming across the region.
Jill is survived by her husband, Mark Rueber; her daughter, Emily Rueber (Hue Jia Wern); her son, Adam Rueber; her sister, Sally Villaluz; her aunt, Jean McLauclan; and her cousins, Thomas and James McLauchlan. Jill lived her life firmly grounded in faith in the Lord Jesus. Her family is comforted by knowing she is now home with the Lord.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Moores for his compassionate care, as well as to the doctors and nurses at Brunswick Hospital and Hospice of the Golden Isles for their kindness and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations be made in Jill’s memory to St. James Lutheran Church in Brunswick, Georgia, and to Girl Scouts of the USA. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is coordinating arrangements.
A memorial service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. The visitation is from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service, with a reception to follow.
