How will we manage without you dear twin. I have wonderful memories of our childhood, like the time we were at Glenpark with Grandpa Munn watching = wait for it -CRICKET.  An elderly gentleman was speaking to us and asked "Which twin are you" and I replied "That's Joan and I'm me". We also talked sensibly in our sleep. Dad would tell Mum to tell us to get to sleep and stop talking, but we were sleeping and just having a "sleep talking session". That is also an identical twin thing, as also having to dress the same, which I hated!
I miss you and love you every day and know that some day we will be together again and folk will once again not be able to tell us apart.  Good night, sleep tight, dont let the bugs bite.  God bless you my other half.  Your loving twin Katie. xxx

"A cold,shivering 5 year old sits in Februry on a tenament stairs, in Greenock, Scotland where his mother,  has deposited him with strict orders not to come in to his Aunt's house where his mother, a nurse, is attending to her sister who is giving birth to a child, maybe two,-such uncertainty being being par for the course at that time, in 1940.
 
The boy, alho' feeling rejected at being shut out is nevertheless excited at the prospect of having a cousin living next door as a playmate. His hope that the new arrival will be a boy are dashed when his mother comes out of his aunt's apartment with the news.  " It's a girl, and not one, but two !
 
So I was there when Joan and her twin sister Kay were born !
 
The twins were born into a far from settled world, we were at war, everything from food, fuel, clothing, toys, even candies were rationed and most households were bereft of men, they being absent in uniform, as was my Dad, but the girl's Dad, my Uncle Jimmy, was employed buildng warships for the Royal Navy and as such was prohibited from joining any of the armed forces, so he became my surrogate Dad, and as my Mum was a Nurse and frequently absent on duty, the girl's Mum, my Auntie Elsie became my surrogate Mum.   
 
So for the next four years and beyond my family was Jimmy. Elsie, Kay and Joan and I can say, despite my own parents being absent I, and my "sisters", had a wonderful childhood, full, for me of the happiest possible memories, until when the war was progressing and the Luftwaffe concentrated it's air raids on Greenock's shipyards and terror bombing of the areas associated with with it, that the government decreed that all children within these areas had to be evacuated to a place of safety. Despite our pleas to the suthorities that we be moved together, as we were in fact two seperate families, we were parted to different  areas of the country.
 
For us kids this was a devastating, heartbreaking event and subsequent analysis suggested that I was the most affected as, being the older, seriously missed my two "wee sisters"   As the war drew to a close and we were all reunited back in our Greenock tenament and life resumed to some sort of reality for several years but Joan being something of a Tomboy was more interested in my pursuits than those of her more girly sister Kay, so we became much closer spending more time together, Joan often sticking to me like glue  even when I went out with my pals and this went on for several years until Joan then threw the ultimate bombshell into our families lifestyle by announcing at age 17 that she had met the man she would marry and if it meant she'd spend the rest of her life following him wherever he was posted  throughout the world or back in his own country - the U.S of A after he left the Navy - then so be it !.  You can imagine the consternation that followed this announcement from a very young, worldly inexperienced, teenager, who'd never had a boyfriend and who'd  never traveled further than the 50 miles or so involved in her evacution.   
 
Every member of our family had a real go at Joan to give this guy up and find some nice local lad but, bless her, she stuck to her guns and married Norman and the rest as they say is history.  Their marriage turned out to be the stuff of legends, Norman proving to be a wonderful loving husband and eventually father, and subsequently even looked on as a star by the entire Scottish family who'd been so against his marrying Joan.  But those objections soon evaporated when we all saw how happy they were.
 
Now they're reunited in heaven
