

Laura Barron Williams, 89, peacefully passed away September 13, 2010, while at Hospice of The Golden Isles. Born October 25, 1920, in Newnan, GA to Charles Lee and Gussie Boynton Barron, Laura was the oldest of six daughters. She remained in Newnan, GA. until she married her husband James Gordon Williams in 1940. Laura’s husband left to serve in Europe during World War II. With God’s grace James returned and thereafter, Laura gave birth to four sons and one daughter. As part of his career Laura and James spent three years in the Philippines with their three sons. Their fourth son was born in the Philippines. Laura and James were then blessed with a daughter while living in Tifton, GA. In 1960 the family moved to St. Simons Island, GA. Laura was active in the St. Simons United Methodist Church, Cassina Garden Club and other community organizations. Laura loved gardening, cooking and nurturing her children. An immense love for her family and her wonderful sense of humor stayed with her till the end.
Laura was preceded in death by her loving husband James Gordon Williams in 1994.
Laura is survived by her children James G Williams (Robin) Jacksonville Beach, FL, Charles B Williams (E.J.) St. Simons, Joseph B Williams (Susan) Melbourne Beach, FL, Gregg A Williams (Susan)Jacksonville, FL and daughter Lucy (Michael) Thomas St Simons. She leaves behind grandchildren Sasha Williams (Rachel), Laurie Williams, Andrea Williams, Amy Baldwin (Joey), Josh Williams, Max Williams, Hillary Williams, Kimberly Williams, Waite Thomas, Laura Gordon Thomas, Nellie Thomas and her great grandchildren, Ronan, Addia and Holly. Laura also leaves behind her five sisters, Evelyn Thompson, Ruth Mealor, Dee Reynolds, Charlsie Farmer (Hugh) and Katchie Cane and a dear family friend, Marie Hutcherson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The St. Simons Island Methodist Church, 624 Ocean Blvd St Simons Island, GA 31522, Faithworks, P.O. Box 2907, Brunswick, GA 31521,or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Visitation will be Thursday September 16, 2010 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Edo Miller and Sons, 3321 Glynn Avenue, Brunswick, GA 31520.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, September 17th, at the St. Simons United Methodist Church at 624 Ocean Blvd St Simons Island, GA 31522, burial immediately following at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens.
