

Leyla Maude Anglin Pilcher, 99, passed away on October 25, 2010, at the Satilla Regional Hospital in Waycross, GA. She was born November 26, 1910, in Butler, GA, to William Allen and Bashie Blair Anglin. She was a graduate of Butler High School. She married Elmo Thomas Pilcher in 1933 and in 1943 the couple and their young daughter June moved to Brunswick where Mr. Pilcher took a job with J.A. Jones Shipyard building Liberty Ships. After the war Mr. Pilcher took a job at Hercules, and Leyla Maude worked in sales for many years at JC Penney’s, Correll’s Men’s Shop and LaVern’s Dress Shop. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Brunswick since 1943 and over the years she taught Sunday School, GA’s, and was a member of the WMU and the Extension Department. She was also a life member of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Pilcher was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Elmo Thomas Pilcher; her parents, William Allen and Bashie Blair Anglin; a sister Sallie Mae Byrd, and four brothers, W.R., Leo, Raymond, and Julian Anglin. She is survived by a daughter, June Pilcher Brown and husband, Richard, and a granddaughter, Adaire Brown Spaulding and husband, Mark, all of Brunswick, GA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the Twitty Chapel of First Baptist Church of Brunswick at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. Services will be officiated by the Reverend James Crandall and music will be provided by Dr. Neal Cordle and Mrs. Sandra Brunson.
Active pallbearers are the Honorable Judge James R. Tuten, Jr., George Vaughn Brown, Paul D. Spaulding, Robert Davis, Bill Brunson, Laverne Strickland and Bob Harris. Honorary pallbearers are the Brown Family, the Ruth Class, Adult Five Sunday School and Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Brunswick, GA.
