Margie was a lifelong resident of Brunswick, Georgia born on March 24, 1937, to the late Margaret Joyner Blount and the late Howard Paul Blount, Sr. Margie is a graduate of Glynn Academy, Class of 1955. After high school, Margie married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Jerry Lamar Joiner. They moved to Atlanta, Georgia while Jerry attended Georgia Institute of Technology. Margie was a very loyal Georgia Tech fan and can be found watching the Yellow Jackets on Football Saturdays. While in Atlanta, Margie began her career with Southern Bell and continued to work for them until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of the AT&T Pioneer Group. Upon Jerry’s graduation, Margie and Jerry moved back to the Golden Isles where they raised their “3 J’s”- Jody, Julie, and Jaime.
Margie was a charter member of College Place United Methodist Church, where she was a faithful servant of God. She loved reading her bible and studying the word of God. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Disciple classes 1-4. Margie was a member of the Lamp Lighters Women’s Group and The Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Margie loved spending time with her family and friends as well as playing bridge and dominoes. Her favorite times were spent around the kitchen table enjoying a good meal and telling stories.
In addition to Marjorie’s parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Joiner; her brother, Mike Blount; brother-in-law, Barry Richardson, and sister-in-law, Ann Tucker Blount.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Joiner Ackerman (Rick) of St. Simons Island and sons, Jody Lamar Joiner (Lori) of Brunswick, GA and Jaime Michael Joiner (Donna) of Thomaston, GA. She is also survived by her brother, Col. H. Paul Blount Jr. USA (R) of St. Simons Island; her sister, Suzanne Richardson of Marietta, GA, and her sister-in-law, Anne Butler Blount of Rockhill, SC.
Her pride and joy are her “magnificent 7” grandchildren: Michael Joiner (Jessie), Casey Joiner (Victoria), Lila Joiner, Cole Ackerman, Jeri Tharpe (Matthew), Riki Joiner, and Brady Joiner; and four great-grandchildren: Vanessa Joiner, Jayson Joiner, Hunter Joiner, and Noah Joiner.
She is, also, survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service is to be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24, 2021 at College Place United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Sam Vernon officiating. A burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 25, 2021 at Palmetto Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Margie’s grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will include the Fellowship Sunday School Class from College Place UMC.
