Mary Copeland Cody

Mary Hall Copeland Cody, 86, of St. Simons Island and Senior Care Center, died Friday December 3, 2010 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. The funeral service will be at 2 PM, Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. With the Reverends Richard Ward and Lester Gainey officiating. Interment will follow at Palmetto Cemetery, with her grandsons Ryan Lee, Jason Copeland and Brad Hummel, Jay Childers, Scott Amick and Lawton Brinson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Annette McSpadden, Peachy Johnson, Gloria Morrison, Brenda Morales, Tamara Harris, Linda Reynolds, William M. Lee, Toni Metz, and Jeff and Coco Brennan.

Born July 6, 1924 in Tifton, Georgia to the late A.M. and Elizabeth Hall. She and her late husband A.R. Copeland relocated to Brunswick in 1942 where she was employed by the J. C. Penny Company for many years. In 1967 she married B.H. Cody owner and operator of Cody’s Restaurant and later, the Western Sizzlin Steak Houses where she worked until their retirement. After retirement she returned to her love of gardening and worked tirelessly maintaining her home and gardens. She was well known for the beautiful Amaryllis’s she grew. Her greatest joy was sharing her flowers with friends and family. She was a devoted wife, mother, stepmother and grandmother who deeply loved all her children. Mrs. Cody was preceded in death by her husband, A.R. Copeland and B.H. Cody as well as her daughter Carolyn Copeland McClure.

She is survived by her three daughters Norma C. Cowan (Jimmy), Delores C. (Dee) Brantley and Elaine C. Hummel (Ed) and two sons A.R.Copeland (Randy) and William B. Cody (Missy); 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 8 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1PM – 2PM on Tuesday at Edo Miller, prior to the service. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Hospice of the Golden Isles. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements. www.edomillerandsons.com
