Mary was born on June 16, 1941, in Claxton, Georgia. Although born in Claxton, she became a lifelong resident and true native of Brunswick after moving there in 1954. She graduated from Glynn Academy in 1959 and pursued her calling to care for others by attending nursing school at Memorial Hospital in Savannah from 1960 to 1961, before returning to Brunswick to complete her education.
Shortly after her return home, Mary attended the county fair with Tommy Crosby. After one kiss shared on top of the Bullet, they both knew they would spend the rest of their lives together. That love story became the foundation of a devoted marriage and a family they cherished deeply. Together, they raised two children, Karen and Jimmy.
Mary dedicated many years of her professional life as a nurse at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center, a career she loved and in which she excelled. Known as a compassionate, skilled, and devoted caretaker, she touched countless lives through her work and her gentle spirit.
She was a faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and an active member of the Rambling Roses Red Hat Society of Brunswick, Georgia. Mary found great joy in writing short stories for her family—especially at Christmastime—reading, knitting and crocheting (all self-taught), and, above all, spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillie Blocker; her beloved husband, James Thomas “Tommy” Crosby, Sr.; her son, James Thomas “Jimmy” Crosby, Jr.; her grandson, James Thomas “Jamie” Crosby III; her brother, James Olan Blocker, Jr.; an infant brother; and her sister, Linda Ann Lott.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Lynne Crosby (Jimbo); her son-in-love, James A. Clayton; her sister, Brenda Keene (Neal Gilchrist); her granddaughter, January Crosby Harding (Jamey); her great-grandchildren, Hannah Grace Harding and Gannon Williams; her sisters-in-law, Glenda Blocker and Lee Isla Crosby; her brother-in-law, Alfred Benjamin Crosby; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Chaplain Rob Kestler, D. Min. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at Heartland Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to Heartland Hospice.
