

Mrs. Miriam Jones Haynes, 72, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at her St. Simons Island residence following an extended illness. She leaves behind her husband of 52 years, the Reverend Dr. Wilson Felix Haynes, Jr.
Born in Dothan, AL, she was the daughter of the late James Earl and Eunice Sands Jones. A graduate of the 1961 class of Ware County High School, she attended Florida State University.
Mrs. Haynes was a master seamstress, gardener, cook, and floral designer. She was one of the first teachers in the John F. Kennedy Manpower Development Program and also worked for the Federal Court as a stenographer. She later became part-owner of Elegant Thymes Catering of Hilton Head Island, SC. At age 48, she became a flight attendant and worked for American, Continental, and AV Atlantic Airlines. First and foremost, her most gratifying role was being a minister’s wife.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Haynes is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Johnson and her husband Briar, of Williamson, GA; a son, Kenneth Haynes, of Concord, Georgia; three grandchildren, Mallory Meyer and Ansley Meyer of Williamson, Georgia, and Marshall Meyer and his wife Selena of Beaufort, SC; two great-grandsons, Aidan Tyler Harris of Williamson, Georgia, and Sawyer Haynes Meyer of Beaufort, SC; a brother, Robert Jones and his wife Peggy of Atlanta, GA; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on December 31, 2015 at 11AM at the First Baptist Church of St. Simons Island, with the Reverend Dr. Felix Haynes, Jr. officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will follow at Christ Church Cemetery. A reception and visitation will follow the service at First Baptist Church of St. Simons Island.
