
Larry was born October 18, 1930 in Detroit, MI to the late Richard and Catherine Park. He was raised in Vancouver and Montreal, Canada. He served in the US Army and fought with the 5th RCT in the Korean War, where he received two Purple Hearts. He worked with the Army CID for a time in New York until his discharge from the Army in 1952.
He worked in the private sector for a brief time and then, missing the military life, he joined the US Marine Corps. During his time in the Marines, he did two years as a DI at Parris Island, SC and went to Air Traffic Control School. HE served as an Air Traffic Controller in Hawaii and El Toro, CA and did two tours in the Vietnam War. Also while he was in Hawaii, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Hawaii. He was stationed at Glynco NAS as an Air Traffic Control instructor at the time of his retirement with the rank of Gunnery SGT.
Larry went to work for the city of Brunswick as the Personnel, Purchasing and Accounts Payable Director until his retirement in 1992.
I addition to Larry’s parents he is preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon Nolan.
Survived by his wife of 30 years: Carol; a sister: Marilyn (Karl) Wax of Guelph, Canada; three children by a previous marriage: Cathy (Bennie) Nolen, Lynn (Preston) Newton and Scott (Angela) Park all of Brunswick; A step son: Michael Whalen of Brunswick; grandchildren: Shane Nolen, Hank Newton, and Catherine Newton all of Brunswick; Elizabeth Park Lutz (Ryan) of Ohio, and Alyssa Park and Kelsey Park of Brunswick; he is also survived by eight grandchildren.
There are no services at this time, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
