

Richard Green Wootton, 96, of Brunswick, Georgia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. He was born in Holapan, Florida the son of the late Royal and Georgia Lou Wootton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beth Eleanor Wootton; and a brother, David Wootton.
Richard attended high school in Mississippi and later earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia. He then had a successful career as an educator. After high school, he received a football scholarship at the University of Mississippi. Richard chose to enlist in the United States Navy instead and served his country with honor. He became a Navy Pilot and flew from air craft carriers. He met the love of his life, Beth Eleanor Johnson, at the University of Georgia. They were married for 71 years.
Richard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed sports and was an avid UGA Football fan. He also keep up with Old Miss Football as well. He was also an avid reader and was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hiking in nature and found it relaxing. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to carry on his legacy are his son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Pam Wootton of Alabaster, AL; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mike Kennedy of Brunswick, GA; four grandchildren, Patrick Wootton (Allison), Kimberly Harn (Marty), Mitch Kennedy, and Mitzi Kennedy; six great grandchildren, Blake and Morgan Wootton, Logan and Hudson Harn, also Addison and Arnie Kennedy.
A private family graveside to honor Richard’s life will be held Monday, December 6, 2021 in Palmetto Cemetery with Rev. Jim Crandall officiating.
