Robert C. "Bobby" Highsmith

Robert C. (Bobby) Highsmith, 87, of Brunswick, GA passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 at his residence. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Brown and Reverend Joe Strickland officiating. Interment will follow the service in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving pallbearers will be Larry Parrish, Rick Morris, Rudy Peeples, Don Myers, Malachi Morris, Brad Cox, David Highsmith, and Nathan Highsmith. Honorary pallbearers will be OD & Faye Manning, Shirley Highsmith, Gene & Ailene Leggett, Andy Tostensen, Johnny Brayman and Frank Taylor, Jr.

Family will receive friends from 6 pm - 8 pm Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

Mr. Highsmith is a lifelong native of Brunswick, Georgia, born November 6, 1926 to the late James O. Highsmith and the late Nettie Smith Highsmith. He is a veteran of the United States Army. He retired in 1989 after 41 years of service at Brunswick Pulp and Paper (GA Pacific). Mr. Highsmith is a member of the American Legion and President of “Over the Hill Gang” camping club. He is also a member of Blythe Island Baptist Church, serving on the Building and Grounds Committee.

Mr. Highsmith enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. He is an avid hunter and fisherman. He leaves behind many fond memories that will be cherished by all.

In addition to Mr. Highsmith’s parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Peeples Highsmith, daughter Susan Highsmith, son Charles Henry Highsmith, two sisters Camille Highsmith Stewert, and Ethyl Highsmith Harp, and his brother James O. Highsmith, Jr.

Survivors include his two sons Phillip Highsmith and wife Sharon, and Louis Highsmith (Brenda Murray); his five grandchildren Amanda Morris (Malachi), Brad Cox, David Highsmith, Brooke Highsmith, and Nathan Highsmith; two great-grandchildren; sister in law Shirley Highsmith; and several nieces and nephews
