Russell C. Jacobs, Jr., a devoted husband, father, dear friend, and steadfast man of faith, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 89 years old.
Born on December 6, 1935, Russell grew up on a farm in Screven County, Georgia, alongside his brother, Herbert, and sister, Emily. He was the son of Russell Jacobs, Sr., and Blanche Gill Jacobs. He attended Emory University before graduating from the University of Georgia in 1957. He was married to the former Jane Ella Keesling, the love of his life.
A man of deep faith, Russell was a cherished member of College Place United Methodist Church for over 45 years. Music was one of the great loves of his life. He and Jane shared this passion wholeheartedly and, for 39 years, Russell and Jane provided College Place with their music, with Russell at the organ and Jane at the piano, blending their talents in a way that lifted the spirits of all who worshiped there. Beyond church, Russell was captivated by the power and beauty of a well-played organ concert, reveling in the grandeur of its sound and the skill of its musicians. Music was a source of comfort, joy, and a deep connection to his faith and those he loved. After his time at College Place, Russell became a member of First United Methodist Church, where he worshiped faithfully until he was no longer able to attend. His devotion to his faith remained unwavering throughout his life.
Professionally, Russell built a successful career in the life insurance industry, working with integrity and commitment for over 50 years. Russell took great pride in watching all his children and grandchildren grow, find their own paths, and pursue careers that reflected their individual talents and passions. He celebrated their successes and supported them unconditionally, always eager to share their achievements and milestones and was happy that three family members chose to work in his chosen profession.
Russell was deeply committed to his community and education. He served for many years on the Glynn County School Board and as President of the Georgia School Board Association, advocating for students and educators across the state. He was also an active member of the Exchange Club of Brunswick for many years, dedicating his time to service and fellowship. Beyond his leadership roles, Russell was passionate about charitable giving, supporting numerous organizations dedicated to education, faith-based initiatives, and community welfare. His generosity and commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on those in need.
Known for his wisdom, kindness, and ability to truly listen, Russell was sought out for his thoughtful counsel and sage advice. His resilience and strength were evident in his long and courageous 20-year battle with Parkinson’s, which he faced with unwavering grace and determination.
He is survived by his three children, Russell C. Jacobs III (Cindy), Ruth Ann Hilburn (Randy), and Jim Jacobs (Krista); his beloved grandchildren, Jacob Hampton (Angela), Madeline Jacobs-Egan (Dan), Emily Stewart (Ryan), Parker Jacobs (Chloe), and Lewis Jacobs; and many extended family members and dear friends.
A celebration of Russell’s life will be held at First United Methodist Church, Downtown Brunswick, 11:00 am, Friday, February 28th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, First United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
