

Ruth Fisher Rugaber, 96, a resident of St. Simons Island, died Thursday, December 5th, 2013. Mrs. Rugaber was a native of Jarvisburg, North Carolina and grew up in Alachua, Florida. She had been a resident of Saint Simons since 1996. She graduated from Florida State University where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was an art teacher and a museum docent in Toledo, Ohio, Miami, Florida and West Palm Beach Florida. Locally, she was a member of Newcomers' and Shore Birds Clubs, and enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. She was a great supporter of the Saint Simons Library where for several years she coordinated library volunteers.
Mrs. Rugaber was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Richard Monroe Rugaber, her sister Elsie Fisher Bell and her brother Isaac Walter ("Ike") Fisher. Survivors are her two sons, Spencer Rugaber (Susan) of Atlanta and Howard Rugaber (Patricia) of Saint Simons, granddaughters Emily Rugaber of San Francisco (CA) and Clarissa (Mike) Hobson of Colorado Springs (CO), and greatgranddaughter Charlotte.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, December 9th at Christ Church, Frederica with Father Douglas Renegar officiating.
