

Ruth Cargill Winters, 85, of Brunswick, died Saturday, February 20, 2010 at her residence. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Wilfrid Logsdon and Father Cletus Pifher, officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Park Cemetery.
Born September 4, 1924 in North Bergen, New Jersey, to the late Arthur and Mae Zech Cargill, she was an educator. After receiving her masters in early childhood education from Trenton State College, Trenton, New Jersey, Mrs. Winters taught Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades in New Jersey. After moving to Jekyll Island in 1974, she taught kindergarten in St. Marys, Kingsland, and Woodbine elementary schools. Mrs. Winters also worked for the Glynn County Tax Commissioner at the tag office during tag season for five years. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and belonged to The Third Order of Mary, educated adults entering St. Francis Xavier Church, and taught children in preparation for first communion.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Winters was preceded in death by her husband, Henry T. Winters.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Griffiths, and husband Thomas of Brunswick, a niece Anita Costello-Mauldin, and husband Zay and family of Secaucus, NJ, and a nephew, Edward Costello of New Jersey.
A rosary will held at 6:30 PM Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 7:00PM until 9:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
