Sarah Ann Lee, age 52, of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Southeast Georgia Health System. She was a native of Pittsboro, NC, where she lived until she was 10. She and her family moved to Brunswick in 1980.
Sarah graduated from Brunswick High School. She attended the College of Coastal GA and graduated from the University of Georgia. She worked for and retired from UGA College of Engineering. Students appreciated her guidance and expertise in helping them develop their research and laboratory skills.
Over the years, she was a member of Pittsboro UMC, Pittsboro, NC; College Place UMC and First UMC in Brunswick, GA; Ashford Memorial Methodist Church in Watkinsville, GA; Bowman Baptist in Bowman, GA; and the United Pentecostal Church in Brunswick. Praising The Lord was of utmost importance to her. She sang in the choirs of most of these churches. She was a member of several Sunday School classes including the Duncan Class at FUMC. She participated in various church activities. She was glad to go the extra mile in helping others. She was recently baptized in The Name of Jesus at the United Pentecostal Church of Brunswick. Her words of wisdom are to “Invest in Jesus. His return is guaranteed.”
Sarah was preceded in death by her grandparents Aleene Canady Lee and Roland Edgar Lee of Pembroke, GA; Sue Lytton Blizzard and John Douglas Blizzard of Dillon SC; uncles and aunts Jack (Joy) Lee of Dalton, GA; Linda (Tom) Peterson of Savannah, GA; Bill (Ruth) Lee of Springfield, GA; Doug (Judi) Blizzard of Smithfield, NC.
Sarah is survived by her father and mother Jerry Thomas Lee and Betsy Blizzard Lee of Brunswick, GA; sister Linda S. Lee of Beech Island, SC; fiancé Russ C. Thomas of Bowman, GA; Uncle Terry (Allene) Lee of Hardeeville, SC; Aunt June C (Ray) Wasilauskis of Chicago, IL; and 17 cousins.
Sarah liked to be active. She enjoyed outdoor activities and earned many badges in girl scouts. Her first experience with clogging was when the principal, Mariellen Morris, allowed clogging lessons to be an option for PE in 4th grade at Glyndale Elementary. That’s exercise! She continued clogging and Irish dancing as an adult. She performed at various events. Her grandmother Sue Blizzard (Momsue) taught her to crochet when she was in middle school. Sarah Ann crocheted the dresses for the dolls shown in one of the pictures on the website. Sarah loved the beach and any water for swimming. Some of her favorite activities were water skiing, darting across the water on her jet ski, and horseback riding. She had a special affection for her gentle cat, Daphne, as well as for her horse and dogs. She preferred to cook like people did in “the old days.” For family get-togethers, she always used her grandmother’s recipe for cake with cooked chocolate icing. Good to the last crumb! That last crumb was reached quickly.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 28, from 6 until 8 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place on Saturday, April 29, at 10:30 AM at Ash Branch Cemetery in Pembroke, Georgia.
