A devoted mother and grandmother, she was a steady source of strength and love for her family. Her son, Jeff, often described her as the rock he could always lean on. Shirley enjoyed spending time in her garden and dearly loved her dog, Dash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil Lee Scott; her son, Robert “Tad” Thomas Poppell, Jr.; and all twelve of her siblings, including Virginia, Vernon, and Johnny.
A visitation will be held at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick on Saturday, March 14, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Shirley will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
