

Ted was born on January 26, 1920 in Cleveland, TN to the late Theodore E. Stivers, Sr. and Eulalee Rose Stivers. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jackson Stivers of St. Simons Island, GA; daughters, Karen Stivers Norman and husband Wayne of Sautee Nacoochee, GA, Joanne Stivers Wheeler and husband Dan of The Woodlands, TX; son, Sam Stivers and wife Marilyn of Southborough, MA; sisters, Rachael Lou Stivers (Wakie) Heckman of Sherman, TX, Betty Rose Stivers Perry of Atlanta, GA, sister-in-law Peggy Stivers of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Valerie Stivers Isakov and husband Ivan of Brooklyn, NY, Elliot Stivers of Atlanta, GA, Amy Wheeler McLaughlin and husband Andy of Fresno, TX, Jeff Wheeler of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren, Adeline Aglaya Isakov and Timur Ivanovitch Isakov of Brooklyn, NY, and Vivienne Grace McLaughlin of Fresno, TX. He was predeceased by his brother David Alwyn Stivers of St. Paul, MN.
Ted grew up in Cleveland, TN and Rome, GA. He graduated from Darlington School in Rome, GA and entered Kansas State University at the age of 16. He graduated in Milling Engineering after a brief absence to rebuild the family flour mill in Rome (Stivers Flour Mill) after a fire. He met Sara Jane Reid while working for Quaker Oats in Sherman, TX, married and they had three children. During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy, served in the Pacific, and was honorably discharged as Lt. Junior Grade. He built his own successful milling engineering firm in Decatur, GA and served on many engineering boards and organizations including serving as president of the National Council of Examining Engineers. In 1973, he married Mary Jackson Berry, who was a devoted and loving wife until his death. He was very active with the campaigns of Ronald Reagan and served as Georgia campaign chairman. In retirement he enjoyed fishing, boating, international travel, attending the Masters and rooting for the Braves. He and Mary attended Glenn Memorial Methodist Church while living in Decatur and then became faithful members of St. Simons United Methodist Church.
Funeral service will be held at St. Simons United Methodist Church, Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11 a.m., with Reverend Marcia Cochran officiating. Per Mr. Stivers’ family, a private interment will be held at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
