

Walter J. Raczynski, age 90, of Brunswick, died Monday, June 18, 2012. Mr. Raczynski served as a pilot in the US Navy during WWII, specifically the Pacific Theater, and flew to Midway, Guadalcanal, Peleliu Island and other Pacific islands. He left the Navy in 1947 as a lieutenant. He was also a graduate of Georgia Tech, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering, and later retired from General Electric. He enjoyed drawing and painting in his free time and his favorite subject to paint was his wife, Beulah Varnedoe Raczynski, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by a son, John P. Raczynski (Judi) of Fernandina Beach, FL; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Jones (Tom) of Brunswick; three grandsons, David Raczynski of Brunswick, Jesse Raczynski (Samantha) of Chicago, IL, and Jason Meurer (Ann) of Louisville, KY, and six great-grandchildren; Harley, Maggie, Connor, Layla, Cassidy, and Caitlin.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Will Logsdon officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Palmetto Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Raczynski, Jesse Raczynski, Jason Meurer, Lonnie Varnedoe, Paul Varnedoe III, Richard Varnedoe, Dwight Varnedoe, Jack McConnell, Paul Gorny and David Gorny. Honorary pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus, Norbert Gorny, Ray Throne, Hugh Baggett and Lamar Thompson.
