Al was born May 9, 1933, in the beautiful summer hill resort region of Dehradun in Mussoorie, India. As a young boy, he was fascinated by the beautiful colors of the Himalayan pheasants. In later years of his life, when he had the opportunity, he devoted part of his life towards nature conservation. He became an honorary life member of the World Pheasant Association and a member of the board of governors of the World Wildlife Fund International. During the course of his volunteer work in nature conservation, he had the opportunity to meet many dignitaries like Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, and the late HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
In his later years after moving to Canada, he found joy in gardening and with the help of his dear friend, he built a garden of his own. His garden was the awe of the neighbourhood with passersby stopping to admire his blossoms. Neighbours often consulted him about their own gardens.
Al was a kind and generous person. He loved to travel, and was a foodie who enjoyed eating well. He was a captivating story teller recounting his life’s experiences with amazing detail.
Al will be deeply missed by his wife, Rose, and family & friends. His loved ones find comfort knowing he is at peace, and that his legacy of love and generosity will guide them for generations to come.
