Aileen Marie Hinchelwood

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother Aileen Marie Hinchelwood on Thursday, September 24, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 96 years. Aileen was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, the daughter of Florence and Jack Maynard. Aileen is survived by her son Darcy Hinchelwood of Edmonton, Lindsay Hinchelwood of Calgary and her daughter Shannon Daisog of Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur Robert Hinchelwood, her brother Jack Maynard and her parents Florence and Jack Maynard.

Aileen moved from her family home in Lethbridge to Calgary after marriage. Her brother and mother followed to Calgary soon after. Aileen was a stay-at-home mom while her kids were young, working part-time with the Calgary School Board as they got older.

After a family move to Edmonton, Aileen pursued her career once again with the Edmonton School Board later becoming an Office Services Supervisor for Canadian Bechtel. She moved on and worked as a Supervisor for GWG and ended her career as a Supervisor with Stelco Steel upon her retirement.

Aileen and Arthur had a love of camping and started us off making a yearly 3-week vacation to Okanagan falls in British Columbia. She loved get-a-ways to Vegas with Arthur as well as regular visits to Waterton in the summer where she had many happy memories growing up as a young girl and woman. She spoke fondly of the Saturday night dances at the Pavilion in Waterton where big bands such as Mark Kennie would play. Aileen loved to dance and enjoyed music her entire life. Once Arthur passed Aileen and her daughter Shannon would stay a few days in Waterton every summer to continue the family tradition. Mom was always available for her family, particularly her children. She had a wonderful sense of humour and was a very thoughtful, kind, and caring woman that stayed with her throughout her entire life. She was a dearly loved wife, sister, and daughter but most of all a devoted and cherished mother to her three children. She will remain in our memories and hearts forever.
