Born in Hudson Heights, Quebec, Al relocated to Alberta in 1952 and began his career in the hardwood flooring trade in 1954. In 1957 he married his beloved wife, Shirley, and together they raised their family. In 1966 he founded Professional Resurfacing Limited, which he led with dedication and success for nearly five decades until his retirement in 2014.
A skilled craftsman and devoted outdoorsman, Al pursued many interests throughout his life. He took great pleasure in woodworking in his garage, travelling in his motorhome, boating at the lake, fishing, hunting, and vacationing with his family. He was an avid fan of football and hockey and, in his younger years, an active participant in sports.
Al will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Beverley and Karen; his sons-in-law, Steve and Rob; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Cody, and Kennedy, as well as numerous extended family members.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley; his daughter, Michele; his parents; his two sisters; his three brothers; and many extended family members and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Foster's Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery), on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. The prayer service will be live streamed for those who wish to attend virtually, please click on the link in the service area below the obituary.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Parish, 640 – 19 Avenue NW, Calgary, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 12:00 noon.
Interment will follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Al's honour to Ducks Unlimited Canada.
