We are saddened to announce the passing of Alfons (Ed) Mech, son of Eugenia (nee: Grumeza) and Adelbert Mech, of Romania. Ed died peacefully after struggling with dementia and a series of strokes which left him with a loss of vision and hearing.
Ed arrived in Calgary in the mid 1960’s and worked in a variety of jobs including seismic, ranching and city services. He was well known for his prowess in target shooting, having won many awards and highly regarded as a custom gun stock maker.
Ed was predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years, Bonnie Mech; survived by brother-in-law Doug Aubrey of Westbank, British Columbia. and close friends Flora Aubrey and Andrew Carson of Calgary, Alberta.
We wish to thank the staff at Peter Lougheed Hospital, Cardiology, Transition Services and ETS paramedics. We are grateful to the George Boyack Nursing Home for their care and the advocacy of the wonderful staff there.
Lastly, we are extremely thankful to Wendi Kerr for her steadfast companionship and friendship with Ed over the last few years.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
A private Memorial Service will be held with the interment of Ed’s urn to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
