July 21, 1926 – June 13, 2015
Our Father and Granddad passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years. Alfred was predeceased by his wife Audrey. He is survived by his sons, Brian (Marianne) and Cliff (Debbie); grandchildren, Kevin, Carolyn, and Nicholas; brother, Helmut; sister, Leona; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alfred grew up on his family’s homestead in the Craig/Markerville area west of Innisfail, AB and moved to Calgary in the early 1950’s, working first for International Harvester and then Chevron Canada for over 30 years. He was a faithful and founding member of Foothills Lutheran Church. Alfred’s passions in life were “antiquing, tinkering and restoration”, finding his diamonds in the rough around Calgary during his Saturday morning garage sale sorties and in the rural areas of Alberta where he grew up, never forgetting where he came from. Alfred loved his vacation time with family and friends on Vancouver Island salmon fishing, clamming, and beachcombing. Alfred was a great cook who enjoyed hosting summer barbeques grilling up his charcoal masterpieces on the back patio and tending to his garden. Thank you to Dr. Beairsto and the staff of the Brentwood Care Centre, Alfred's caregivers over his last few declining years. A Memorial Service will be held at Foothills Lutheran Church, 3104 – 34 Ave N.W., T2L 2A3 on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
