We are saddened by the passing of a loving warm hearted woman, Alice, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, who left us peacefully Sunday, August 4, 2024 in her own room at St Marguerite Manor in Calgary, AB at the age of 100 years. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Alice was born the youngest in Wattsford near Two Hills in northern Alberta to the late Meron and Marafta (nee Choban) Tkachuk who immigrated to Canada from the Ukraine. Alice grew up with two sisters and five brothers in a small home on a farm where she worked hard and attended grade school taught by her brother, Nick. It was, as she loved to tell us, a different, simpler and easier life than what she was living now.
She moved out on her own to Edmonton where she worked until she met Nick Andriashek whom she married. They moved to Ontario for a few years where their daughter Jeanette was born. They moved back to Calgary due to Nick’s health issue. Their son Rick was born five years after Jeanette.
She was a full time mother and homemaker. Her interests were gardening, bingo, bowling and entertaining the many family and friends that came to visit. Their house was the hotspot for relatives visiting the Stampede. Nick and Alice moved to BC after Nick’s retirement. Alice, a prairie loving girl, moved back to Alberta after separating with Nick at the age of 65. She divorced Nick and lived in Calgary on her own until her passing.
She loved traveling and joined many senior bus tours until well into her eighties. She had the chance to travel with her sisters and her niece until she put away her suitcase for good.
Alice is survived by her son Rick (Ann) Andriashek; grandsons James (Michelle) Demoskoff, Will (Heather) Demoskoff, Mick Andriashek, Cody Andriashek and Adam Andriashek. She is also survived by a few great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Alice was predeceased by her daughter Jeanette in 1971, all her brothers, Bill, Sylvester, Nick, Peter, and Steve, and sisters, Stephanie and Jennie. Being the baby of the family, she outlived them all. Also predeceasing her are a few nephews and nieces, the most recent being nephew Marshall Eliuk on March 1, 2024 and a great niece Trina Shpur on July 20, 2024.
Cremation has taken place and, at her request, she will be buried with her cherished daughter Jeanette in the same plot in Queens Park Cemetery, Calgary AB.
There will be no service at this time but a celebration of life will take place in Nelson, BC at a later date this year.
A beautiful soul has finally got her wish to go “home”, completing her incredible 100 year journey of her life.
