October 17, 1932 – February 16, 2012
Our beloved Mum and Grandma passed away peacefully on February 16, 2012, at Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 79. Amy will be sorely missed by her children Murray (Shirley), Wendy (Don) and Jim (Licia) along with her 5 grandchildren: Kelsey, Kaitlyn, Megan, Corey & Christopher. She had a special relationship with her grandchildren who liked to spend time with her on the piano, joking around, and repeatedly explaining to her how to use her cell phone. Her friends and colleagues from AA were also a big part of her life. She spent a lot of time volunteering and mentoring people through the program. You could find her coffee pot on at all times of the day or night as she never turned away anyone in need of support. Born in Didsbury, Alberta on October 17, 1932, Amy grew up in the nearby hamlet of Sunnyslope and attended high school at the Red Deer Composite High. Excelling in bookkeeping, she worked at Prudential Trust in Red Deer which is where she met her first husband, Stanley Haskayne. After getting married in Sunnyslope, they moved to Calgary where Amy continued to work until her children Murray, Wendy and Jimmy came onto the scene. She then rejoined the workforce at the CPR Credit Union, then as a teachers’ aid, and later for the Provincial Government. She also moonlighted for many years as the pianist in a band, with music being a major passion throughout her life. Amy fought a number of health issues during her life with grace and dignity, her sense of humour and ready laugh never failing her. She was predeceased by her father Bernard P.A. Dick (July
18, 1936) and mother Mary Dick (May 29, 1981), an infant brother who passed away at birth (1931), and another older brother Carl Dick (October 23 , 2002). A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 27th, 2012 at 1:00 p.m., at the Bergthal Mennonite Church, located 75 km north of Calgary on Bergthal Road. Bergthal Road intersects Hwy 2, 13km north of Hwy 581 (to Carstairs) & 2 km south of the Didsbury turnoff (Hwy 582). The Church is 7 km east of Hwy 2, on the south side of Bergthal Road. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
