Ann was born on January 14, 1920 to the late William and Margaret Squark of Minburn, Alberta. She grew up on the family farm located seven miles south of Minburn where she learned the value of conserving scarce resources as her family worked to develop the farm.
She married the late Leslie Lonneberg in Calgary in 1945. They built their own house on Scotsman’s Hill in Calgary and lived there for over 60 years. She is survived by her three sons; Erwin (Lily), Bruce (Lorna), and Evan; her grandchildren, Austin (Amy), Lauren, Jordon, Kreg (Sarah), and Shea. She was predeceased by her husband in 2014.
In addition to volunteering with Pioneer Girls, and many other positions at Bethel Baptist Church, Ann was a tireless volunteer for St. John’s Ambulance. She taught first aid courses and attended many local events as a first aid volunteer. She also captained the provincial first aid team to several national championships. As an organizer she looked after St. John’s duty rosters for numerous community events culminating in her logging literally thousands of hours of volunteer time to fill duty rosters for the 1988 Olympics in Calgary. She received acknowledgement from the Olympic Organizing Committee for her commitment. In addition to several service awards, Ann was admitted to the Order of St. John, her acts of service recognized in her receiving the Dame of Grace in 1988 from Governor General Jeanne Sauvé.
A Private Family Service will be held.
