It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Anton (Tony) Korman in Calgary, AB on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the age of 94 years.
Tony was born in Saskatoon, SK on June 9, 1930, and at the age of two years his mother returned to Munich, Germany with him. He was raised in Munich and Aschheim, Germany by his loving paternal grandparents, Ludwig and Katharina Kormann, along with his two older sisters. He completed his apprenticeship as a butcher in Germany training under his grandfather.
Tony returned to Canada in 1951 at the age of 21 and spent some time in Brooks, AB working for his father at his grocery store. After a short time in White Rock, BC, he returned to Alberta, settling in Calgary where he met his loving wife Margaret and raised their two daughters. He spent 38 years at various Safeway stores in Calgary, working in the meat department before retiring. After 12 years of retirement, Tony applied at Calgary Coop where he worked full time until he was 82. Way to go dad!
Tony was very active his entire life. In the summer he loved to waterski and hike in the mountains with the outdoor club they joined when they retired. Often their young grandsons accompanied them on their Thursday hikes. In the winter he was with his family, downhill skiing, snowmobiling, curling, skating at the Oval, and with the outdoor club cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing in the mountains. He also loved to travel with his family and went on many vacations both near and far.
The door was always open to all in the Korman household. Tony loved to cook, bake German tortes for all to enjoy and put together puzzles. Often, he could be found enjoying the company of not only his family and friends, and the furry family members that always came to visit. He had an adventurous spirit, kind heart, a gentle soul, and he will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Tony was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret and sisters Amalie Lacherbauer (Berkeley, IL) and Katharina Schwarzmeier (Grafing, Germany), and brother Ludwig Korman (Maple Ridge, BC). Left to lovingly remember him are daughters Kathrina (Ian) Korman-Clingan and Betty Korman (Brett Hawthorne), grandsons Ryan (Rachel) and Cameron (Angie) and three great-granddaughters Constance, Danica, and Raelynn, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family in Germany.
We would like to thank the staff at Foothills Medical Centre for their compassionate care.
