Arthur “Art” Riegel passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026 at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife, Lois, his daughter, Margot and her husband Sid Neufeld, his brothers; Elmer (Marilyn) and Paul (Valerie), and 6 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; Emil and Ella, and his sister Ruth.
Art was born in Calgary but spent the majority of his growing up years in Kelowna, BC, where his dad was a pastor. He moved to Calgary to finish high school and attend the University of Calgary where he met his wife, Lois. Art taught with the Calgary Board of Education until retirement and did substitute teaching subsequent to that. Besides work, Art enjoyed the outdoors especially hiking, camping, and mountain biking until he became disabled due to a rare neurological disorder called Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy.
A Celebration of Art’s Life will be held at Centre Street Church Central Campus, 3900 2 St NE, Calgary AB T2E 9C1, on Friday, October 2 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Centre Street Church Building Fund.
