Assunta Ferrise

Assunta Ferrise passed away peacefully in the night Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Hillcrest Extendicare in Calgary, Alberta. The heavens were waiting for Assunta’s arrival where she will join her husband, Antonio Ferrise, her daughter Maria, son-in-law Jeremy and her family in heaven.

Left behind are her son Giovanni (John), daughter-in-law Silvia and three grandchildren: Alessia, Antonio and Stefania.

Assunta was born in Longobucco, Italy. As a young child, she and her family moved to San Giovanni in Fiore where she grew up and lived with her mom, dad and twelve siblings.

Assunta immigrated to Canada at the age of 20 with her brother Quintino.

She married Antonio in March 1969. They were blessed with two beautiful children: Giovanni (John) and Maria Ferrise.

Assunta will be remembered for her love and passion for cooking, baking and most importantly, being with her family.

She spent endless hours in the kitchen creating gourmet meals with basic ingredients, baking delicious treats and sharing with family and friends alongside, enjoying espresso and homemade cookies. Later in life, she lived with her son and his family. She would always say the grandchildren were her “treasures”.

Assunta’s door was always open. She lived for family gatherings, surrounded by the people she cared for. She always made sure everyone had the best and most tasty food and always had enough for whoever came over.

One of her best qualities was making sure everyone else was taken care of first. She was also very accepting of others as they came into her life.

Assunta, our beloved mother, nonna, mother-in-law, aunt, sister, cousin and friend will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

A Funeral Service will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel, 3220 4 Street N.W., across from Queen's Park Cemetery, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.

A Graveside Service will follow at Queen's Park Cemetery,
