On the day of love, February 14, 2019, surrounded by love, our Mom, Barbara Irene Cook (nee. Blake) passed away at the age of 86 years. She is survived by her three loving daughters Abby Cook (Garry), Christine Cook and her two children Harry and Sydney Willis and Paula Cook and her two children Declan and Rylan Smits. She is also survived by her brother Bill Blake (Delores) and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Barbara was born in Granum Alberta on October 29, 1932. Barb spent most of her early years in Vancouver where she graduated from UBC’s Normal School with a teaching certificate. She taught Grade three before meeting Howard Cook whom she married in 1954.
At the very heart of Barbara’s life was her undying love for her three daughters and grandchildren. For her grandchildren, early memories will include many trips to her beloved Heritage Park to ride the train, have picnics and eat ice-cream. To her daughters, Mom was always the cheerleader, the biggest supporter and the one we went to with any problem and she would help us find the solution. We loved her more than words could ever describe and all the Barb-isms that made her Barb will remain a vivid part of our lives forever.
A Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held at Heritage Park in the Gasoline Alley Mezzanine, (1900 Heritage Drive SW), on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
We’d also like to thank the staff at Chinook Hospice for their kindness and compassion shown to mom.
If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wings of Hope at the Breast Cancer Foundation, (https://wings-of-hope.com/).
