Ben Watkins passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 the age of 88 years. Born in March of 1931 to Margaret and William Watkins, Ben spent most of his formative years in rural Manitoba. Ben was an avid sportsman that included baseball, golf, hockey, broomball, and most of all curling. Ben was also amazing with his hands, there was nothing he couldn’t fix. Ben moved to Calgary from Reston Manitoba in the early 70s with his family to pursue a career with the Hudson Bay Company until he retired from there. Then bought a washer and dryer rental business he owned that for a few years then sold it and went into full retirement.
He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his children; Lori, Kenneth, Darrell, Terry and Bob. Grandchildren: Justin, Amie, Amber, Jana, Adam, Shayleen, Sheldon, Kyla and eight great grandchildren. Ben also leaves behind his siblings and their families. Sister Queenie 92 years of Chilliwack BC and Brother Oliver 90 years of Cumberland B.C.
Ben was predeceased by his father William John and mother Anna Margret Watkins. Evelyn Watkins (Sister), Herbert Watkins (Brother), Ralph Watkins (Brother), Rose Hansen (Sister), Frank Watkins (Brother), Adeline Ethel Schlemmer (Sister), Hester Arther (Sister), Jack Watkins (John) (Brother). Along with former wife Darlene Sharon Watkins.
A Memorial Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Tuesday, October 8 , 2019 at 2:00P.M.
Memorial donations in Ben’s name will be gratefully accepted by The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
