Calgary, AB - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Blair Lindsay "Pops" Haukedal has asked us to pass on the message that as of Sunday, July 9, 2023, Blair's work here is done. While this announcement was sudden and unexpected, after 65 years, he was made an offer that he couldn't pass up and has decided to move on from his current position.
His new role promises reunions with family and friends he'd lost touch with, including his mother and father, Mae and Cyril Haukedal, and his older brother, Craig Haukedal. Other benefits include 100% job security, the ability to set his own hours, and unlimited time to putter with technology without annoying interruptions like eating or sleep.
It's always hard when someone moves on, and words can't express how much he'll be missed - by his children and their partners: Megan and Justin Howe, Aaron Haukedal and Jade Clarke; his grandsons: Thomas, Theo, and Benjamin Howe; his brother and sister-in-law: Jerry and Karen Haukedal, and by countless other family members, nieces, nephews, and friends he made along his journey.
Blair taught us many lessons during his tenure here on earth: See the best in people. Help those in need, even if you don't understand their struggle. The superior operating system is Linux, and command lines are better than GUIs. Money and respect are earned, not given; so if you want either, work hard for them. When you give someone money, choose to believe the best about what they'll do with it. And to always love your family fiercely and do your best to put them first.
Blair knew the world could be challenging, but he never missed the beauty in the little things, like kids dancing with their shadows or his two-year-old daughter trying to tie his shoes. His love of children reflected what he really was; a big kid. He was un-embarassable. He always had a terrible joke to share and a silly face to make. He was fun. He was a kind man.
From those he left behind, we want to let Blair know that he did a great job during his time here, that we always did and always will love him dearly, and that we wish him nothing but the same joy and happiness he brought so many of us.
In Lieu of flowers, Blair asks that you listen to "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" by David Bowie - while camping somewhere in the Rocky Mountains if possible. If Bowie and camping aren't your thing, he asks a donation be made in his name to the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre at https://www.aarc.ab.ca.
We invite any and all who knew Blair to Celebrate his Life at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park) on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
