Yesterday I lost my wife of 54 years. Brenda Gail Smetaniuk (ne Winch) succumbed to her third different fight with cancer. She was pre-deceased by her mother, father and her oldest brother. She leaves behind a brother (Phil), husband (Brian), daughter (Nikki) and son and daughter in law (Roger & Julie), along with 4 wonderful grandchildren (Hex, Benoit, Genevieve & Ilyanna).
In our earliest years I was involved in motorsport, and somewhere along the line she decided that getting involved has to be more interesting than sitting on the sidelines. She won her first National title years before I won my first, and she drove an open wheel formula race car decades before I did.
Once we moved to Alberta, she drifted into more volunteering. Started with the kids’ schools, then onto baseball. Where she was a team mom, then manager, then eventually ending up as the ADA (Assistant District Administer) for softball in the south half of Calgary. And still had time to hold a full-time job as an office manager for a trophy and awards engraving shop.
Will be missed by all
