It is with heartfelt sadness that his loving family relates the passing of Carson Bennett Carter. Carson was born in Canton, Mississippi and moved with his family early in life to Salmon Arm, B.C., where he spent his school years being active in sports and making lifelong friends. After graduating from High School, Carson attained his Bachelor of Physical Education degree from U.B.C. followed later with his Master of Criminology from Ottawa University. In 1963, Carson joined the R.C.M.P., where his devotion to duty, diplomacy, friendship and fairness to the public was renowned. In 1989, the town of Innisfail, Alberta honoured Carson by naming him “Citizen of the Year” for his service to the community and surrounding area.
Upon retirement from the R.C.M.P., Carson worked as a fraud investigator for the province of Alberta for two years before returning to Salmon Arm to help his aging parents. Not one to sit idle, Carson once again returned to college to become trained in the Home Support field. He enjoyed a mini career helping seniors in their homes for another eight years. Although he finally settled with his wife in Calgary to be near their own children, Carson and Joy would spend every summer at their cabin on the Shuswap.
While living in Salmon Arm, Carson was very instrumental in the formation of the Grey Grebe Dragon boat club. He so enjoyed the wonderful group of people he paddled with and spent his later summers helping coach the team.
Carson is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joy, and his beloved children; daughter Kendall, her husband Ian and children Reid and Robin; and son Dean, his wife Jennifer and daughter Eliza, all of Calgary. Carson is also survived by a sister, Nancy in Vancouver and a brother Rudi in Toronto as well as some very special nieces and nephews.
Carson was an exceptionally wonderful man whose friendliness, kindness, love and sense of humor will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
