April 21, 1920 – July 15, 2011
Wayne passed away peacefully at the Lake Midnapore Beverly Care Centre on Friday, July 15, 2011 at the age of 91 years. He was predeceased by Wil Harris, his wife of 53 years, in 2008. Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his sons Len (Heather) Harris and John (Debbie) Harris; his two grandchildren Jamie and Kristi; and his great grandchild Jaxson. Wayne is survived by his brothers Allen, Jack and Lee; as well as his sister Crystal and numerous nieces and nephews. He was born and raised in Oyen, Alberta and enlisted in Edmonton in 1940 where he trained on antiaircraft guns. Wayne’s tour took him to Sicily, France, Belgium, Holland and into Germany. In 1945, at the end of the war, he met his wife Wil while stationed in Holland and they were married. Wayne returned to Calgary and back to Oyen. One year later Wil joined him. They spent a short time in Peace River and returned to Calgary where he had a great 33 year career with CPR. They also lived on a small farm and raised all types of livestock. In later years Wayne and Wil enjoyed traveling, with many trips taken back to Europe where he had served in wartime. They enjoyed traveling to B.C., especially Victoria. The family gives special thanks to the staff in Unit 52 at Peter Lougheed Hospital and to all of the staff at the Beverly Care Centre in Lake Midnapore. At Wayne’s request no service will be held.
