It is with profound love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, 朱黄珍华, at the incredible age of 104. A woman of extraordinary resilience and spirit, she remained sharp, joyful, and deeply connected to her family throughout her long and remarkable journey.
Born in the rural village of Toisan, China, her life was defined by a fierce independence. She spent her early years working on the family rice farm and, with incredible strength, raised her three children on her own. Her journey took her from the fields of Toisan to the city of Guangzhou, and eventually, at the age of 60, she moved to Canada to be reunited with her daughter.
Like many families shaped by immigration, her life was often a story of sacrifice and separation. She endured decades apart from her children, and never had the chance to receive the traditional tea at any of her three children’s weddings. Though she never met her youngest granddaughter or her two youngest great-grandchildren in person, she found profound joy in their thriving lives and delighted in their photos and stories, holding them close in her heart and sharing them generously with those of us nearby. She was the reason these bonds - to those we know and those we have yet to meet - transcended time, distance, and adversity.
Throughout a century of life and its many challenges, she made the beautiful and deliberate choice to always find happiness. She was known for her immense patience, her kindness, and an incredible sense of humor that stayed with her always. She lived with a deep sense of gratitude and contentment, teaching us by example that joy is something we can choose to carry with us. After moving to Canada, she dedicated herself to raising her grandchildren, providing a foundation of love and wisdom that has shaped our lives. In her later years, her great-grandchildren became her greatest joy, lighting up her days whenever they were near.
She was a proud mother of three, a devoted grandmother of five, and a cherished great-grandmother of seven. True to her nurturing nature, she ended every conversation with traditional blessings for her family. She would wish us all continued good health and happiness - 身体健康, 心小开车,一家平安, 开开心心
Though we feel an endless well of grief, we find comfort in her incredible legacy. She was a woman who stood strong on her own, laughed often, and loved her family with a depth that will never be forgotten. We carry her final blessings of health and happiness with us always.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
