

Christine Marie Hendrix, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 94. Born on September 23, 1931 in Rimbey, Alberta, Christine lived a life she considered a grand adventure, full of excitement and wonder.
In 1952, Christine married Steve Hendrix, beginning a loving partnership that would span 61 devoted years. The couple settled in Calgary where they raised their four children. From the very start, Christine poured herself into her family with boundless energy and warmth. At just 21, she took on the task of cooking for the sawmill at Spray Lakes owned and operated by her husband, a role that revealed her extraordinary talent in the kitchen. Her legendary baking, particularly her fresh bread, became the topic of neighborhood lore, with the irresistible aromas drawing neighbors to her door time and time again. That gift for gathering people around a table carried through decades of cherished family meals.
Christine was a woman of remarkable range and determination. She became highly proficient in synchronized swimming and shared her love of water by teaching swimming lessons. In 1979, she earned her art degree, a testament to her creative spirit and lifelong curiosity. Christine's love of nature and incredible talent drove her to create works of art that adorn many friend’s and family's homes. She won many prestigious awards and is exhibited in several esteemed galleries. She saw beauty everywhere and embraced each day with infectious enthusiasm.
A woman of deep and abiding Catholic faith, Christine viewed the world as a reflection of God's creation. Her convictions led her to become a passionate advocate in the pro-life movement, dedicating herself with such unwavering commitment that she was once arrested and briefly jailed for her peaceful activism. Her courage in standing by her beliefs was a defining hallmark of her character.
Christine is survived by her children Dianne Brown (Michael) of Calgary, Roger Hendrix (Farah) of Washington, Dan Hendrix of Austin, Laurie Floyd (Rob) of Calgary; and daughter-in-law Susan Hendrix. She is also survived by her grandchildren Tamara (Rob), Alana (Derek), Rachael (Nic), Logan (Kayla), Dayle, Teresa (Eubene) and Sam; as well as her great-grandchildren Derek, Kasey, Savannah, Cohen, Sawyer, Camdyn, Hudson, Georgia, Jake, Theadore and Ava. She is also survived by her siblings Carl DeNeve, Lucille Hendrix (John) and Dan DeNeve. Christine was predeceased by her husband Steve and her granddaughter Jaqueline Floyd.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 15 Templebow Road N.E., Calgary on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception at Foster’s Garden Chapel Funeral Home, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary at 11:45 a.m.
