May 8, 1922 – September 26, 2013
Dan Richard Punch passed away in Calgary, AB on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the age of 91 years.
Dan was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. As a child, he worked on the farm and later worked in the bush and some time in a cigarette factory. Dan moved to the Calgary area in the 1940s and met Helen Gauthier. After a very long courtship, they married in 1959. Helen, along with her two children Vernon and Barbara, loved Dan and they all became a very tight family. Dan was a carpenter in Calgary and ran a very successful carpentry business with his partner, Hank Braul. All who knew Dan marveled at his carpentry skills. When he did a job, he did it right, fast and beautiful. They lived in the home he built for Helen in the Brentwood area. He had a quiet sense of humor that drew people to him. To know Dan was to love him. Left to mourn his loss is his daughter, Barbara Zimmer (nee Gauthier); grandchildren, Connie (Rob) Leslie, Raymond (Carri) Gauthier, Tammy Gauthier, Zach (Sarah) Zimmer, Rebecca Zimmer and great grandchildren, Hailey and Logan Leslie, Jessica, Kyla and Tommy Gauthier, Shyanne and Elijah Gauthier and Aidan, Sully and Finn Zimmer. Dan is predeceased by his parents; brother, John Punch; son-in-law, Bob Zimmer; son, Vernon Gauthier, and his beloved wife, Helen.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Parish, 1566 Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary, AB on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with The Reverend David Meadows, Celebrant.
