It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Dennis Dunn. In 2012, Dennis was predeceased by the star of his life, his cherished wife of 54 years, Sarah “Sadie” Dunn. Dennis is lovingly remembered and already missed by his sons Wayne (Beth), Stuart (Teresa); his daughter Diane (Eric); grandchildren Kristen (Kelli), Andrew (Lindsey), Eric (Joan), Alanna, and Kiera; and great-grandsons Jacob, James, and Ethan. Dennis was predeceased by his father Andrew Dunn (Hamilton, Scotland) and mother Inez Dunn (Spokane, Washington) and brothers Andrew “Drew” and David. He was also loved and will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Born in Calgary, Dennis grew up in Edmonton, spending summers in Jasper where he met the love of his life, Sadie. His 37-year long career as an accountant with Imperial Oil started in Redwater and took him to Edmonton; Regina; Calgary; Irvine, California; Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia; and Sale, Australia before retiring in Calgary. Upon retiring as a project executive, Dennis joined the Esso Annuitant Club and enjoyed a wide range of activities including hiking, bowling, curling, wine tasting, and bridge. Dennis also loved fishing, kayaking, camping, golfing, dancing, skiing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. These adventures provided the background for his many wonderful stories. Dennis will be greatly missed by his friends and neighbours. Our heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Foothills Hospital. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a small, private service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020. A video link will be available, please contact Foster’s Garden Chapel for more information. A larger celebration of life will be held at a later date when less impacted by the pandemic. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to make a donation in Dennis’ memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at or a charity of their choice.

Dear Wayne, Diane and Stuart,
I want to express my deepest condolences on the loss of your wonderful father. I have strong memories of your dad as a compassionate and kind man. He was a hard working man, yet seemed to take time to enjoy life.....I loved the years when we camped together at Osoyoos lake....and remember the kayak adventures? I developed a life long love of kayak/canoe type trips after that camping experience. I know my dad always admired your dad’s ambitions and his positive outlook on life. Sending heart felt sympathy and compassion to all of you at this difficult time.
Love Janice ❤️

I just learned of Dennis’ passing, and want to add my voice to those who cared so much for this kind, gentle and friendly man. He sort of adopted me on my first hike with the Esso Annuitants, so we talked often on the bus. He and Sadie gave my husband and I some great advice for hikes in the Jasper area. (The Wilcox Pass hike they recommended became one of our favorites.) When Dennis heard that this American wanted to learn about the great sport of curling, he invited me (and a friend) to a practice. Sadie sat with us and explained all the particulars. It was quite a fun event, and a picture in the video tribute to Dennis is from that day. I am honored to have counted both Sadie and Dennis as friends, even though it was for entirely too short a time!

Our deepest sympathy is extended to all the family of Dennis & Sadie. We had the very great pleasure of meeting them in Sale while Dennis was on assignment to Esso Australia. Our camping and fishing trips along with evenings of cards and stock-ticker have never been forgotten by us and never will. A truly happy, vibrant couple and a wonderful mentor Dennis was to all us young Exxon employees. Sadly missed but always in our hearts...

Dear Wayne, Stuart, and Diane,

I was so very sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle Dennis, and my sincere condolences go out to you and your families. I will always remember the many, many stories he told about he and Aunt Sadie's travels, the countries they lived, and spectacular hikes they went on. He was an adventurous, intelligent, and humoreous man that will be sorely missed by all family and his many friends.

Please take care.

Dennis and Sadie were friends of myself and Con for over 65 years. They were both special people. Together we had so many fun times including going to each others wedding, the Annuitant Club and traveling the World. I will certainly miss Dennis doing my taxes and just being my close friend. Peace of the Lord!

Dear Wayne, Stuart and Diane,
My sincere condolences to you and your family.
I only met Dennis 8 years ago when I first retired and joined the Esso Annuitants Club. I have hiked with Dennis, and was in the same casual Monday morning walking group as him. Dennis was such a fun person to walk along side of. He always had stories, jokes or songs to share with you. I have a lot of great memories and photos of those times, that I love to look at. Dennis was so kind, caring, humorous, interesting, positive and just fun to be around.
I know a lot of people will miss him tremendously, especially you, his family!
Thinking of you,
