We were saddened to see the notice in the paper about Don's passing.  Don was a man of faith and courage.  We remember the years he served as an usher in Bethel church and we also remember him as a friend and looked forward to seeing him when he delivered our sausages from Saskatoon.

May the peace of God guard your hearts and minds (Phil 4:23).

My dad…..when I was a kid we would share cheezies and Cuban lunch chocolate bars. He took us to Sunday School at Bethel Baptist church and taught me how to play tennis. Dad loved taking the family on vacations and thrilled us with a flight to Disneyland! He was the dad that could be very stubborn but was the dad to help out with car repairs, rides to events and more than anything prayed for our family. I am blessed to call him my dad!

Ah Don Toews, 
what do you say about Don? Well first he was a gentleman, a hard worker and very dedicated to helping the staff at Foster's Garden Chapel. He was willing to do about anything you asked - sometimes after he would stir the pot of course. He would say "Dr. I have to stir the pot cause its my job here and I have a big spoon" My nick name for Don was always "Teflon Don" cause even though he liked to stir the pot he also liked to make sure no one knew he was the one holding the spoon.
Rest well my friend until we meet again, 

We have known Don to be a handsome and gentle giant.  We knew him first at Bethel Baptist where we both attended and remember how early he lost his beautiful wife.
In later years we met often at Funerals at Foster's - he was always caring to families and friends of those who were bereaved.
Recently Vic tried to contact him, as he often did, by phone, and found the number not in service.  We are sorry we could not say goodbye. Vic has several pens that Don gave him when he sang at Foster's.  Good memories.

When I started at Foster's Garden Chapel in 1996, Don had already been here for 6 months. He always joked that he had trained me.  Don took great pride in serving our families during his 20 years here as a part of our Foster's family. He was always willing to do whatever was asked of him  and would be here at a moments notice.  
Don was a valued associate and good friend. "Don, we are glad you are at peace and reunited with your beloved wife. Rest well dear friend".  Our sincerest condolences to Don's family.

In 1988 I walked into a car dealership in NE Calgary. As a young man at the time, Don was more than willing to help & assist me. After a short conversation he said to take a vehicle out for a drive and handed me the keys. I was quite surprised because I had already received grief from others looking at or attempting to take cars out for test drives at the time.  I always remembered that and what a good decent person he was dealing with as I purchased that vehicle from him. I still remember him now after 33 years.

I first met Don when he was selling cars in Steinbach, Manitoba, in the 60s.
Then some years later ! When he was selling cars in  Calgary, Alberta, and I was a salesman for Reimer Express.
We met again at Fosters in Calgary, where he was employed, and I was in the Prearrangement Department. We called  them “Layaway plans”.
We shared many a laugh at common interests.! Over many cups of coffee, and serious discussions too about God and eternity in Heaven.
Don was a “ gentleman “, interesting, honest and fair . I will miss him.
He talked fondly of his family; however, sadly; until now, I never had the privilege of meeting them.. my condolences, and God’s comfort and blessings to each of you . May you “ go with God”!  Henry T. Dyck

I had the pleasure of working with Don for a number of years.  He loved to stir the pot at times, which always made things interesting.
He was a good friend, and a gentleman, and my main supplier of Mennonite sausage.
You will be missed Don.
