Doris Marguerite Thompson

1918 - 2006

Doris Thompson passed away peacefully in Calgary on Wednesday, March 1, 2006. She arrived to greet the world with her twin sister Dorothy on August 5, 1918 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. She spent her school years in Weyburn competing in hockey, basketball and baseball and maintaining an excellent academic record.

Doris met Charlie Thompson, her husband of over 50 years in Weyburn. They married in 1942 prior to Charlie’s assignment overseas as a WW II pilot. Doris would wait for Charlie’s return from overseas to start their journey through life together. That journey would include family and friends, golf, their passion for curling and flying. In 1959 Charlie’s transfer with Mobil Oil Canada moved them to Calgary. Doris was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed competition and was very proud to be on the winning curling team of the Tournament of Pearls in the late sixties.

She was predeceased by her parents Sam and Annie Lowes, her sisters Dorothy (Jack) Fraser, Rowena Lowes, Nettie Lowes and her brother Larry Lowes. She is survived by her sisters; Audrey Falconer of Regina, Doreen Pearce and Betty Osten of Winnipeg and brother Bobby Lowes of Moose Jaw. She and her “feisty” nature will be greatly missed by her children; Wayne Thompson and Jane Thompson; daughter-in-law Clare Thompson; grandchildren Jen McNutt, Jacqueline (Al) Baecker, Tammie (Mike) Good and Stephen Thompson as well as her great grandchildren Ashlee and Kailin Good and Dylan Baecker. A Funeral Service will be held at Wildrose United Church, 1317 – 1 Street N.W., Calgary on Friday, March 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m.
