I just read of Eddy’s passing. My belated sympathies to the Family. He was a wonderful man who I had the pleasure of working with.

My 2 big brothers, Sam and Eddy, are 14 and 12 years older than me and they were like a second set of parents to me and Shirley.  Sam was the easy one who always said yes. Eddy was much tougher on us and I was always scared of him.  Eddy always made us do our homework and made us clean up, but he also spoiled us too.  He always treated us to yummy food and bought us nice things like a pair of GOLD GoGo boots when I was just 5 years old (Shirley got cool white ones! See picture with this post).

I always looked up to Eddy because he was strong and brave.  Despite the issues with his back, he did sports, he excelled in school and did well in his career.  He never asked for special treatment and never took crap from anyone.

In case you guys did not know, I was the one to introduce Eddy to Jeannie!  When I was in Grade 10, I dated Jeannie’s younger brother and I told Eddy to ask Jeannie out.  Well, the rest is history!  Eddy was blessed with 40 years of marriage, 2 amazing kids and their amazing partners and 4 wonderful grandchildren.

In 2015, Eddy came to Toronto for cataract surgery.  I will always treasure those 2 weeks because EVERY NIGHT, we went to a different restaurant for dinner.  We had a lot of good food, but the best part was that I had a lot of alone time with my brother.  When Eddy came to Toronto for Cassandra’s wedding in 2018, he made a long handwritten list of restaurants he wanted to try.  That list is still in my car and I vow to try them all for you Eddy!

The last time I saw Eddy was when I visited Calgary in Feb 2020 before the pandemic.  I am so sad you left us so early Eddy.  I hope you are enjoying a big lobster dinner with Mom and Dad and Michael now.  

Unfortunately, COVID prevented me from coming to say a final goodbye to you Eddy.  I feel so blessed to be your little sister and thank you for watching over me my entire life.

A great friend is something to be cherished. I am better for knowing you, better for having met you, especially the years while I was studied in university. 

May you be as blessed in the next life, my friend, as I was in this one by knowing you.

  Rest In Peace, Dear Eddy

Jeannie, Timothy and Kimberly, we're so sad to hear of Eddy's passing. Eddy was my  boss many (many)  moons ago, a mentor, and became a friend. The world will miss him.

I will always treasure our friendship first as younger men working in the oil patch and much later as relatives through marriage of our next generation. 
Rest In Peace , Dear Eddy

Eddy was my classmate, my friend, my best friend, my family friend and my old buddy - a friendship of over 60 years. 

Eddy and I attended the same junior and high school. We studied together, played soccer together and hung out together, having good times as always. We shared and spent our limited pocket money on street food. We stood by each other when engaged in arguments with others. As Eddy‘s home was only five minutes’ walk from school in Mongkok, I used to visit his place. Notably he loved his two younger sisters much and he took them out for snacks every now and then.

Eddy was designated to move overseas. His Chinese name ‘Yuet Kong’, meaning ‘Across the Water’, speaks for it. After he completed high school in Hong Kong, he and his family emigrated to Calgary and we kept in touch by letters. Over the years, we paid visits to each others on numerous occasions in both Hong Kong and Canada. In 2006, we went for a very enjoyable trip to Angkor in Cambodia.

Eddy had had a very good life and a beautiful family. He was trained as a professional accountant and maintained a sustainable career. He became a frequent traveler upon retirement and he liked to post his trip photographs on the internet. 

Family meant everything to Eddy. Because of this he enjoyed sharing with his close friends his domestic stories and pictures of his lovely grand children.

Mongkok is the place where Eddy and I grew up. Whenever I wander through the streets and places where we used to frequent I recall our yester-younger-days. Friendship from those days is a treasure and memories are what we have to remember our dearly departed. 

While it is sad to think about Eddy passing too soon, he is leaving behind a legacy of friendliness, kindness, love and respect. Thoughts are deep, he will live on in our hearts.
