She will be dearly missed by her husband Harold, son Brian (Saundra) of Calgary, daughter Gaylene (Scott) and grandchildren Ellen and John of Seattle, as well as her sister Florence of California, and brothers Louis and Harvey of Saskatchewan. Born and raised on a farm near Regina, Saskatchewan, Edith completed high school and secretarial training at Balfour Technical School in Regina, and worked as a secretary for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and C&G Labs. Edith moved to Calgary in 1959 where she met Harold. Married in 1961, they started a family and moved to Edmonton in 1963. In 1971 they returned to Calgary where Edith focused on her family and worked as a secretary for the Calgary Board of Education. Edith was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church since 1971, and her strong faith provided her with great comfort. Throughout her life, Edith was involved in a variety of activities. She was a member of the Calgary Winter Club, where Edith enjoyed bowling and curling. Upon retirement, Edith volunteered for Lifeline and Meals on Wheels, and she participated in one of her greatest loves as a lawn bowler with Calgary Lawn Bowling. Edith attended the Canadian Doubles Championship in Vancouver in 2004 and enjoyed many years of active competition. Edith also participated in Scottish Country Dancing where she made many lasting friendships. Edith’s greatest passion in life was her family. As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Edith’s family came first. She was generous with her time and open with her heart.
Funeral Services will be held at Hope Lutheran Church (3527 Boulton Rd. NW) on Saturday, September, 13 at 2:00 pm. Scottish Country Dancers are requested to wear their kilts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edith’s name to the Hope Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society, 200-325 Manning Road N.E. Calgary, AB, T2E 9Z9.
