Edward "Ted" Clarence Weale
21 January, 1928 – 1 December, 2021
Our father passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on December 1 at the age of 93. He is survived by sons David and Howard; daughter-in-law Sylvia; grandson George; and niece Bonnie Kupina (Donald Kupina). Our Dad was predeceased by first wife Beryl (Shallcross) and second wife Esther (Spady), his father Clarence and mother Georgia (Jones).
Our Dad was born in Calgary and remained a lifelong Calgarian, astonished at the growth and change he witnessed in the city he loved. After graduating from the University of Alberta, our father went on to teach at Western Canada High School for over 35 years. He was a passionate advocate of and champion for vocational training and education. It was a source of immense pride for him to follow the careers of his former students.
Our Dad was an inveterate reader with boundless curiosity that was contagious in all who knew him. He loved to regale family and friends with storytelling and reciprocating to learn of their lives. When he learned that a visitor shared his interest in chemistry he’d pull out a textbook and the conversation would head down a further enjoyable tangent.
Our Dad was a car guy. A lover and owner of antique cars. He cherished his many friends in the Antique Car Club and wider community of car lovers. Highlights of his annual calendar were the next car rallies. First among equals of his passions and pursuits was his joy in machining. He spent countless hours at his lathe perfecting engine parts for his friends and others in the car community locally and internationally. It was his encyclopedic knowledge of antique cars that had so many people seek him out. And our Dad was always only too willing to share his knowledge and expertise.
A very special thank you to the staff at the Rockyview Hospital (units 74 & 57) for their great care of our father. And a big thank you to Dad's housekeeper Jenny.
