

Elizabeth Mathew of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday. October 3rd, 2025 at the age of 85 years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Elizabeth will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born on July 22, 1940, in Niranam, Kerala, India, Elizabeth was one of seven children. She worked as a school teacher in Kerala for 12 years before moving with her two children to Calgary in 1970 and continuing her life with her husband in Canada. There, she furthered her education and became an LPN. She had a long career at Calgary General Hospital and Bethany Care Center. Elizabeth was known for her beautiful smile, calm presence, and loving nature. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family, hiking through Canada’s beautiful landscapes, and traveling with her husband. She was always happiest when spending time with her children and grandchildren whether it be making Kerala breakfasts or exploring Alberta’s National and Provincial Parks together.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 62 years, P.M. Mathew; her children Anita Zachariah and her husband Cherian Zachariah of Mannasas, VA, and Anil Mathew and his wife Linda Mathew of Southington, CT. She was a cherished grandmother to Kristen Mathew, Sarah Mathew, Daniel Mathew, Rachael Zachariah, and Leah Zachariah. Elizabeth is also survived by her sister Saramma Mathew and leaves behind extended family in Canada and India who will miss her deeply. Her legacy endures in the hearts of all those whose lives she has touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., with Visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. All who knew and loved Elizabeth are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.
